WRITING 11: A REVIEW

WRITING 11: A REVIEW

Hello ladies and gentlemen! How are you this lovely Wednesday? Do you have a blog? Do you like writing your opinion about books and films? If not, you´re lucky, because today we´re going to show you how to write a review. If you don´t know what´s a review, you must read this post. Go on!

INTRODUCTION

What´s a review? A review is a critical article about a book, a film, a TV programme, a play or any other similar thing. Normally it´s a recommendation because people write about things that they love.

Have you ever written a review? What would you say if you had to write a review now? Here you have some tips.

CONTENT

In the first paragraph you have to talk about basic information, depending on what are you talking about. If you´re talking about a book (title, author, editorial, literary genre, pages, year of publication…) If you´re talking about a TV programme (title, channel, time, day…)

In the second paragraph you have to describe the book (main characters, time and place, plot, summary…), the TV programme (TV presenter, contestants…) or the film (main characters, location, plot…)

In the third paragraph you have to talk about reasons why you like it. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO REASON YOUR OPINION.

Finally, in the last paragraph you have to make a recommendation (who is this book / programme/ film… good for? Why?) Write about the best thing and the worst thing about the book, the TV programme or the film. This is your conclusion.

USEFUL EXPRESSIONS

Writing a review you can use expressions like the following ones.

-Personally, I love this… because…

-I think that…

-In my opinion, … it´s really cool because…

-As far as I´m concerned, it´s the best…

-To be honest…

-If you want my honest opinion…

-I believe…

-I agree that…

-I would recommend this… to anybody who likes…

And that’s all for today. Are you able to write a review now? If so, leave us a comment, and, as always, thanks for visiting our blog!
