SPEAKING 3: A DIALOGUE IN A SHOP

Hello everyone! How is it going? How about summer? Imagine you´re in a speaking exam and you have to work with a partner. You´re a customer and you have to choose a shop and a product you want to buy there and your partner is the shop assistant. Are you able to prepare a dialogue? In this article you have some expressions (words and phrases) you can use in a conversation.

One of the most common topics in speaking exams is ‘Shopping’. What can you say in a conversation in a shop? Read this post and practice talking to your classmates.

Shop assistant: It´s 16,99 pounds, please.

Shop assistant: You’re welcome. Bye!

 

2. A DIALOGUE AT THE CHEMIST´S

Customer: Good morning, sir, I have a prescription from my GP.

Chemist: Ok, do you have your social insurance card, madam?

Customer: Yes. Here you are.

Chemist: Let me see… Ok, we have this medicine in tablets or in syrup. What do you prefer?

Customer: Humm… I think in syrup. It´s easier to swallow it. Isn´t it?

Chemist: Yes, you´re right. And please, read the instructions carefully in case there are any side efects.

Customer: Oh. Is there any contraindication? Please, tell me.

Chemist: Hummm…. I think you may feel sleepy.

Customer: Ok. Is that all?

Chemist: One more thing… Please, take the precise dosage: one coffee spoon twice a day after meals.

Customer: Ok, thank you very much.

Chemist: You´re welcome. With this treatment you´ll get better in a few days. Bye!

Customer: See you!

3. A DIALOGUE IN A CLOTHES SHOP

Customer: Hello, do you sell skirts?

Shop assistant: Yes, we´ve got this red one and we´ve also got these yellow ones.

Customer: How much are they?

Shop assistant: The red one is 20 pounds and the yellow ones are 15 pounds.

Customer: What size are the yellow ones?

Shop assistant: They´re large.

Customer: Oh, I need small.

Shop assistant: Sorry, we haven´t got any small ones at the moment.

Customer: ok, don´t worry. What size is the red one?

Shop assistant: Small.

Customer: Oh, great! I´ll take it.

Shop assistant: Excellent. Do you have a bag?

Customer: No, thank you.

Shop assistant: How would you like to pay, by cash or by card?

Customer: By cash. Here you are.

Shop assistant: Thank you!
