BOOK REVIEW 4: THE CRUEL PRINCE

Hello readers! We´re here with a book review. Is fantasy your ‘cup of tea’? If the answer is yes, you need to know Holly Black, the best-selling author of New York Times. Here you have the review of her last book published in Spain: The Cruel Prince. It won´t leave you indifferent!

MAIN CHARACTERS:

  • Jude: She is the star of the novel. A human girl who was kidnapped from real world and sent to Faerie (a magic world where everithing is possible). She is a fighter and wants to be named knight. She has a twin sister (Taryn) who has a completely different personality. Taryn is vain and shallow.
  • Cardan: He is a fairy boy and a prince of Faerie. He is arrogant, vain and extremely cruel with others. He hates Jude.
  • Madoc: He is a kind of orc (mythical monster) and a general of Faerie. He was the first husband of Jude´s mother and the one who kidnapped Jude and her sisters. He is aggresive and brave.
  • Vivi: She is Jude´s eldest sister and Madoc´s daughter. She is not a human girl but she loves humans and has discovered a way to travel from Faerie to real world.

TIME OF THE STORY:

The events take place in the present.

PLACE OF THE STORY:

The story is set in our real world and Faerie.

 

PLOT / SUMMARY:

Suddenly a kind of monster appears in a human house, kills the parents and kidnaps the three girls, carrying them to Faerie. One of the girls is his own daugther but the other two (twins) are his human ex-wife daughters with a man. Even though, he proclaims them princesses and gives them all the things they need. Several years later, Jude wants to be a knight, Taryn wants to get married to an aristocrat and Vivi wants to scape from Faerie. Meanwhile, prince Cardan gets drunk and disturb everybody.

CONCLUSIONS:

This novel is an excellent way to scape from reality, especially if you love fantasy. When you´re reading it the time fly by. Moreover, it´s a way to travel to imaginary worlds where everything is possible.

 

THE BEST THING OF THE BOOK:

The magical descriptions of places, clothes and food.

 

THE WORST THING OF THE BOOK:

It is  an introductory novel from a saga, and we have to wait until next book to know how the story continues.
